If you are looking for something fun to do in Santa Monica, look no further. Renting a bicycle and biking “The Strand” is something that everyone should experience. Whether you live in the area or you are planning a visit, you’ll thank us for having you put this activity on your list of things to do.
Biking “The Strand” is awesome because there’s so much to see. It is a long path – 44 miles – roundtrip – so you can choose to do some or all of it if you are feeling adventurous enough. But there’s nothing like enjoying the salty sea air as you take it all in.
What’s In Store For You Along The Famous Santa Monica Bicycle Path?
“The Strand” has so much to offer, and renting a bicycle allows you to fully immerse yourself in the California beach experience.
Here’s a glimpse of what you’ll see along the way:
Will Rogers Beach
If you’d like, you can start your trip across “The Strand” right at Will Rogers Beach. This beach isn’t as busy as some of the other ones along your route. But it can get busier during the summer months.
Will Rogers Beach is a great spot for families, surfing, and sailing. You’ll love the views! But keep in mind that there isn’t really a dedicated bike path here. You’ll have to walk your bike to Temescal Canyon Road if this is your starting point. That’s where the bike trail begins.
Santa Monica Pier
The Santa Monica Pier is one of the most photographed locations in the world! The views are amazing, and if you just can’t help but stop to enjoy this area, you’ll find there’s so much to do.
Pacific Park has a Ferris Wheel, a historical merry-go-round, an arcade, and so much more. At the very least, make sure you take some pictures here.
Marina Del Rey
There’s always something happening at Marina Del Rey, which is located 8.7 miles from Will Rogers Beach. There are events taking place all the time, as well as plenty to do and see.
By the time you make it to Marina Del Rey, you might be ready for a break. Fisherman’s Village is a great place to catch your breath, grab an ice cream cone and listen to one of the many free concerts taking place there.
Manhattan Beach Pier
After taking a break at Marina Del Rey, you’ll come upon the Manhattan Beach Pier about eight miles later. This location is 16.5 miles from your starting point at Will Rogers Beach.
The Manhattan Beach Pier is the oldest concrete pier on the west coast; it’s been there since the 1920s. It was renovated in the 90s, and today, it remains something that people love to enjoy when they bike “The Strand.”
Hermosa Beach Pier
Once you’ve biked just over 18 miles along “The Strand,” you’ll come to Hermosa Beach Pier. It’s worth it to take another breather here if you need to.
At Hermosa Beach Pier, you can walk out over Santa Monica Bay and see the beauty of Los Angeles. You’ll have great views of Manhattan Beach Pier and Redondo Beach from this vantage point, not to mention there are some great shops and restaurants to explore here too.
Torrance Beach
Once you’ve completed all 22.3 miles of “The Strand,” you’ll find yourself at Torrance Beach. This stunning beach features 40 acres of soft sand, and it lies at the foot of cliffs that extend to the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
Torrance Beach has a concession stand and volleyball nets if you have some energy left and want to join in on a game or two. If not, you can relax and watch the swimmers and surfers as you congratulate yourself on a great bike ride. You made it!
