Santa Monica is a charming beach front city on the west side of Los Angeles County. It’s proximity to the water and mountains and its pleasant climate makes it an ideal location for outdoor activities including hiking, surfing and bike riding.
If cycling is your bag, there are many bike paths in the city to explore. Here are a few you won’t want to miss out on.
Marvin Braude Bike Paths
Nicknamed “The Strand” by Santa Monica locals, the Marvin Braude Bike Trail is a 22-mile route that runs from Will Rogers State Beach in Pacific Palisades to Torrance County State Beach. Along your way, you’ll see some terrific Santa Monica views including the sun worshippers and surfers that hang out at Santa Monica State Beach. The path will take you under the Pier onto Muscle Beach. If you keep riding, you will pass other great California beaches like Hermosa, Manhattan, El Segundo, Venice and more.
San Vincente Blvd.
The beach and mountain bike paths of Santa Monica provide you with a terrific outdoor adventure, but a ride through the streets lets you get a taste of the city’s charm. There are many terrific routes to choose from, but San Vincente Blvd. offers some of the best sites around. It kicks you off on a loop that runs around the Brentwood Country Club and lets you off on San Vincente off Wilshire Blvd.
Continue along Ocean Blvd. for a three-mile stretch that will take you through trendy businesses and attractive residential properties. If you feel like an extra workout is in order, keep riding along the Ocean Ave. shore to downtown Santa Monica. You may even consider riding six additional miles to Marina Del Rey.
Main St.
Main St. is a great choice for those looking to take a more leisurely ride through town. The street is equipped with bike lanes and bike corrals that will come in handy if you want to stop off at one of the many shops or restaurants you’ll pass by on your journey. If you head out on a Sunday, consider taking a break to browse the Farmer’s Market that features its own bike valet. You will also pass the Nike Missile Base. Take a break to climb the towers if you’re feeling adventurous!
